During the holiday season it’s great to get away but you can sometimes bring back an unwanted souvenir or two in the form of bed bugs. Anywhere that has a high turn over of people sleeping there is vulnerable to getting bed bugs and this includes hotels and holiday lets. Apart from seeing the bed bugs themselves other things to look are for are small dark marks around the bed-frame and mattress as shown in the picture.
The adult bed bugs themselves are around the size and colour of an apple pip and feed almost exclusively on human blood. Bed bug eggs are very small and white, and once hatched the bed bugs grow and shed their skin after they consume a meal of human blood.
The shed skins are another tell tale sign to look for. They feed roughly every 6 days and reach adult size after they have shed their skins six times. Bed bugs are one of the trickiest pests to get rid of and are best left to a professional pest control company to deal with. If you think you might have bed bugs, contact St Georges Pest Control.
